It is illegal to foil polls: Intl community
KATHMANDU, NOV 06 - United Nations Resident Coordinator for Nepal Jamie McGoldrick has said that everybody should respect the democratic rights of the public to take part in the elections. Issuing a press statement on behalf of the international missions in Nepal, McGoldrick urged all to respect the right to participate in the polls independently.
Hinting at the recent incidents of violence during the course of election publicity campaigns, UN Resident Coordinator said that it was illegal to foil and disrupt peaceful election campaigns.
"Everybody should respect the democratic right to participate in peaceful, open and inclusive polls ," read the statement issued today.
"Closure and shutdown executed by violence and intimidation are against people's political rights and also against Nepal's law," further read the statement.
McGoldrick applauded the efforts of the politicians, Election Commission and security agencies saying that the election publicity campaigns had gone ahead despite intimidation and obstruction.
