EC scraps Dhungel's candidacy
KATHMANDU, NOV 06 - The Election Commission ( EC ) has scrapped the candidacy of UCPN (Maoist) Proportional Representation (PR) candidate Bal Krishna Dhungel.
Earlier, a complaint had been lodged at the EC against the UCPN (Maoist) party's decision to nominate murder-convict Dhungel as PR candidate for the November 19 Constituent Assembly (CA) elections.
The complaint lodged by Ram Kumari Jhakri, a PR candidate of CPN-UML, had mentioned that murder-convict Dhungel was not eligible to hold the post of lawmaker.
"Bal Krishna Dhungel, who has been fielded as PR candidate by the Maoist party is constitutionally ineligible to be listed in the PR list," read the complaint.
As per the complaint lodge provision, only PR candidates belonging to any political party can lodge complaint against another candidate.
