KATHMANDU, JAN 02 -
UCPN (Maoist) leader Gopal Kirati has made it clear that the list of party's proportional representation (PR) lawmakers submitted to the Election Commission would not be rectified under any circumstances. He remarked that he would rather welcome if the disgruntled leaders of the party—Baburam Bhattarai and Narayan Kaji Shrestha—decide to split the party over the same.
"It is not possible to correct the name list of PR candidates as they [Bhattarai and Shrestha] boycotted the meeting summoned for preparing the list," said leader Kirati at a programme in the Capital on Thursday. "The leaders can split the party over this issue. I will welcome the ones who break up the party. It is not possible to tie those who want to break away the party."
He accused that the leader duo Bhattarai and Shrestha tend to seek their lives in the death of Chairman Dahal. "We could not write the new constitution due to internal struggle of the UCPN (Maoist). The party has long been suffering in the name of internal struggle. It can't be tolerated any more," said leader Kirati.
The Maoist leader further clarified that the party's Central Committee meet slated for January 9 will take up this issue and make attempts to unite the party through transformation. But those who want to secede from the party despite the unity efforts will not be stopped, he said.
Praising the role of Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal in taking ahead the peace and constitution drafting process in spite of the dozen weaknesses and challenges, leader Kirati opined that Chairman Dahal's leadership is needed now more than ever.
He claimed the current hue and cry raised by Bhattarai and Shrestha was premeditated and the list of 54 PR lawmakers was just a pretext.
