EC submits final list of lawmakers to prez

KATHMANDU, JAN 02 -
The Election Commission (EC) on Thursday submitted the final list of Constituent Assembly (CA) members elected through the November 19 CA polls to the president.

The commission submitted the list of 204 lawmakers elected under the first-past-the-post electoral system and 335 lawmakers elected under the proportional representation (PR) electoral system, EC spokesperson Bir Babadur Rai said.

According the Interim Constitution, the first CA meeting should be commenced 21 days after submission of the final list of CA members to the president.

The EC handed over the list to the president even though the confusion remains over whether the president or the Cabinet Chairman should summon the first meeting of CA.

Though the EC had given the deadline of last Monday, extending it thrice, to submit the final list of PR candidates, Madhesi Janadhikar Forum-Nepal (MJF-N) led by Upendra Yadav submitted its list of PR lawmakers today.

A team of EC including Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Neel Kantha Uprety went to the president's office in Sheetal Niwas to submit the final list of lawmakers .

After submitting the final list, CEC Uprety expressed his happiness for completing his responsibility.

The remaining 26 CA members will be appointed by the new government to complete 601-member strong CA.
