SYANGJA, JUN 12 - Police on Tuesday arrested a man on the charge of raping a mentally ill woman from Putalibazaar, the district headquarters of Syangja.
The victim's mother said Prakash Lamsal, 32, raped her 34-year-old unmarried daughter on Monday night. "We were having dinner when she went to bed. After dinner, we too went to her room, but she was not there." The restless mother's efforts to find her daughter inside the house went in vain.
Later on, she was found in a semi-naked condition in a corn field at 10pm along with Lamsal, according to her mother. The family lodged a complaint with police on Tuesday.
Lamsal had reportedly raped the girl seven years ago as well. The case was settled locally under pressure from his family and villagers, said the victims' mother. "Now I will fight for justice till my death."
DSP Somendra Singh Rathour said police have filed a case against the accused.
