BHAKTAPUR, JUN 19 - The Food Technology and Quality Control Department on Wednesday sealed the Kharipati-based Bhaktapur Dairy Company following detection of harmful microorganisms in its milk . A test performed by the Qualiy Control Department last week confirmed the presence of harmfulcoliform s (Gram negative bacteria) in the diary’s milk .
Besides the Bhaktapur Dairy, milk of Amrit and Kantipur brand of Sainju Dairy and Sanjivani Dairy were also found to have the presence of coliform s. Kharipati Dairy produces milk with the name of Gayatri brand.
In a notice issued today, the Department has urged the consumers to not use the milk products of the above mentioned dairies.
On Monday, the locals and employees of the Kharipati-based Dairy Company had obstructed the authorities from sealing the diary.
Three people were also arrested by the police for obstructing and manhandling the team.
Department’s spokesperson Pramod Koirala said the milk from Kharipati Dairy was found to have coliform s in excess of 2,000. Normal milk should not have the presence of coliform s, not even in trace amount.
Presence of coliform s in milk causes diarrhoea, vomiting, fever, typhoid, among other abdominal difficulties.
