Mother and son shot at bingo hall

BBC NEWS

A 56-year-old woman and her son have been shot in what detectives have described as a targeted attack outside a Manchester bingo hall.

Two men pulled up in a black car at about 19:15 GMT as the man was collecting his mother from the Gala Bingo in Harpurhey on Sunday.

The men then blocked the pair in a car park and fired a number of shots.

The woman was hit in the elbow and the man in the wrist. They were treated at North Manchester General Hospital.

Police said the son abandoned his Audi car in Woodville Terrace before the pair walked to the hospital for treatment.

Det Supt Alex Millet said: "This appears to be a targeted incident which could have had even more dire consequences."

The pair did not appear to be "too seriously injured" but police believed the "black car was driven by two white men and it's from that car that the shots were fired".

Mr Millet added that he wanted to reassure residents that armed response officers had been to the scene and police were now investigating.
