UCPN (M) condemns arrest of Tiwari-murder accused

KATHMANDU, DEC 19 - The UCPN (Maoist) has taken exception to the arrest of Siyaram Prasad Kushwaha alias 'Feroz' accused in the murder of Hindu Youth Federation Chairman Kashi Tiwari.

Kushwaha was produced before the court earlier on Wednesday.

In a statement on Thursday, UCPN (Maoist) spokesperson Agni Sapkota denied Kushwaha's involvement in Tiwari's murder and demanded the authority immediately release him.

"Though comrade Kushwaha has been accused in the murder of Kashi Prasad Tiwari, he was not involved in the incident nor has any case been filed against Kushwaha," read the statement, "Our party strongly condemns the arrest of our cadre in an attempt to frame him with a false charge and strongly demands for immediate release of comrade Kushwaha."

Police on Monday arrested Siyaram, a UCPN (Maoist) candidate under Proportional Representation category, from Chitwan. Shiyaram and one Aman Kushwaha allegedly shot dead Tiwari at Shivaparbati Matha in Birgunj on June 26, 2010.
