KATHMANDU, DEC 21 -
The Kathmandu District Court handed down one year jail sentence to non-gazetted officer Som Nath Khanal and Head Constable Parshuram Basnet deployed at the Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) on the charges of cheating Sita Rai , a returnee migrant worker from Saudi Arabia.
The court on Thursday also slapped a fine of Rs 5,000 each on the duo. It, however, gave a clean chit to section officers of TIA Immigration Ram Prasad Koirala and Tikaram Pokharel. Basnet is already serving the jail term after being convicted on the charges of raping Rai.
The court had sentenced Basnet to a five-and-a-half years in prison with a fine of Rs 50,000 in April this year. Sita was raped by Basnet on the pretext of helping her right after she had been robbed of Rs 218,000 by immigration officials.
The anti-graft body, Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority, had filed a corruption case against the four.
