Parties abused authority during polls: 33-party

Baidya

KATHMANDU, NOV 19 - The poll-opposing alliance of 33 political parties led by CPN-Maoist has accused the four parties of abusing power during the Constituent Assembly (CA) election held on Tuesday.

The alliance has also reiterated that the election held with the misuse of power could not draft the people's constitution and give an outlet to the current political crisis facing the nation.

"There is no alternative to dialogue, under any circumstances, between political parties and national consensus for ending the political deadlock," read a press statement issued by alliance and CPN-Maoist leader Dev Gurung, "That's why we would like to call the government, political parties and civil society for dialogue and national consensus."

The alliance also claimed that the transportation strike called to pressurise the government and four major parties, to hold the election only after achieving a national consensus, became successful.

"The transportation shutdown has concluded successfully despite the obstructionist politics and abuse of state power by the four- party syndicate," the statement further read, "The 33- party alliance would like to express its gratitude to everyone who helped in the transportation strike and poll boycotting movement."

The alliance also alleged the government of creating terror by suppressing and misusing the state's power during the transportation strike and boycott movement. The alliance also said that more than 500 leaders, cadres and supporters of the 33- party alliance have been arrested and charged with false cases. The alliance has demanded for unconditional release of the detained cadres.
