KATHMANDU, NOV 19 - Nepal remained on course at the ICC World Twenty20 Qualifiers beating Papua New Guinea by seven wickets in a match held at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium in UAE on Tuesday.
Nepal lost Sagar Pun, one of the openers, for 10 runs early on in the innings. Fellow opener Subash Khakurel made a handy contribution of 38 runs.
Though Vice Captain Gyanendra Malla failed to make a substantial contribution, skipper Paras Khadka and middle-order bat sman Binod Bhandari steadied the ship for Nepal with a flurry of boundaries.
Bhandari played a fluent innings of 51 runs in just 23 balls, studded with six towering sixes.
With the today's victory, Nepal now have three wins from four matches. Their only loss came against Scotland yesterday when they went down by 8 wickets.
Earlier, Papua New Guinea won the toss and elected to bat first, before Nepal pegged them back with quick wickets.
Nepal i skipper Paras Khadka claimed three wickets and continued his impressive run in the tournament, both with the bat and the ball.
Amrit Bhattarai took two wickets while Jitendra Mukhiya claimed one PNG bat sman, helping the Nepal i side to restrict them to a modest total of 140.
Nepal earlier beat Denmark by five wickets in the tournament opener before a thrilling win over Kenya on Saturday.
Nepal are pitted in Group B with Afghanistan, the Netherlands, Scotland, Bermuda, Papua New Guinea, Denmark and Kenya.
Nepal will have to finish in the top six of the 16-nation tournament to qualify for the ICC World Twenty 20 World Cup to be held in Bangladesh next year.
