ICC World Twenty 20 Qualifier: Nepal go down against Scotland in last over Scotland- 138/2 19.2 overs
KATHMANDU, NOV 18 - Nepal lost their game against Scotland by 8 wickets after setting them a target of 138 runs in the ICC World Twenty20 Qualifier match held in Dubai on Monday.
Scotland batsman MacLoed top scored with 82 runs, helping them to overhaul the target set by Nepali batsmen. Scotland won in the last over as Nepal tried to delay the inevitable but with no avail.
Basanta Regmi and Paras Khadka picked up the two wickets that fell during the Scotland innings.
Middle-order batsman Binod Bhandari top scored for Nepal with 28 runs while skipper Paras Khadka contributed wit 27 runs. Despite getting starts, none of the batsmen went to make a significant score, denting Nepal's hopes of giving a challenging total to the Scots.
Spinner Basanta Regmi dismissed Scotland opener Berrington. Nepali bowlers bowled economically in the early half of the innings, not allowing the Scottish batsmen to run away with the game.
Earlier, Scotland won the toss and decided to field first. Nepali opener Subash Khakurel was dismissed for 6 runs before Vice Captain Gyanendra Malla joined Sagar Pun, the other opener.
Nepal earlier beat Denmark by five wickets in the tournament opener before a thrilling win over Kenya on Saturday.
Nepal are pitted in Group B with Afghanistan, the Netherlands, Scotland, Bermuda, Papua New Guinea, Denmark and Kenya.
Nepal will have to finish in the top six of the 16-nation tournament to qualify for the ICC World Twenty 20 World Cup to be held in Bangladesh next year.
