Guilty in Brazil 'Mensalao' corruption trial to be jailed
Delubio Soares, Jose Dirceu and Jose Genoino (L to R) could soon be starting their jail terms
Brazil's Supreme Court has ruled that most of the 25 people convicted in the country's biggest corruption trial should start their prison sentences.
Politicians, businessmen and bankers were convicted over a scheme to pay opposition for support under the former President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.
The decision means that a former chief of staff, Jose Dirceu, and other high profile convicts could soon be in jail.
Some of them, including Mr Dirceu, will be retried on some of the charges.
It is yet not clear how many of the 25 people convicted in a scheme using public funds to pay parties for political support will have their arrest orders issued immediately.
The "Mensalao" (big monthly allowance) case came to light in 2005 but the sentences were issued at the end of 2012.
