DIG Thapa moves SC against AIG promotion

KATHMANDU, NOV 07 - A writ has been filed at the Supreme Court against the government decision to promote Deputy Inspector General of Police Upendra Kanta Aryal to the post the Additional Inspector General (AIG).

Another contender for the promotion , DIG Parbati Thapa , filed the writ at the SC on Thursday, demanding to revoke thepromotion arguing that a junior officer was promoted to the AIG post.

The Cabinet, Home Minister and Nepal Police Headquarters have been made defendants in the writ petition.

On November 1, the Cabinet had decided to promote DIG Aryal to the vacant post of AIG. Inspector General of Police Kuber Singh Rana is retiring on November 15.
