Twenty illegal immigrants including 12 Nepalese have been detained for working as a security guard by making fake identity card in Malaysia.
They were arrested after a raid conducted by Penang Immigration Department on Thursday, according to thestar.com.
A total of 46 foreign security guards were screened at 12 residential areas on Penang Island.
Twelve Nepalese, five Pakistanis and three Filipinos were arrested for not having valid travel documents and for violating their social visit passes.
They have been brought to the state Immigration Department headquarters in Seberang Jaya and remanded for 14 days to assist in investigations under the Immigration Act for violating their passes and for not having valid travel documents.
“We are investigating whether the security firms involved are registered. The employers will be investigated for hiring illegal immigrants,” Penang Immigration Department enforcement assistant director Basri Othman said.
Basri said more operations against bogus security guards would be carried out from time to time.
