India wants to see early CA polls: Indian PM Singh

NEW DELHI, JUN 11 - Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singhhas said that India wants to see the conduction of elections to Constituent Assembly (CA) as soon as possible and promulgation of new constitution in Nepal.
During a meeting with Nepali Congress leader Sher Bahadur Deuba, who is on a six-day official to India, on Tuesday, Singh said consensus among the political parties was indispensable to announce the date for CA polls.
Deuba's spouse Arju Deuba, NC leader Bimalendra Nidhi and acting Nepali envoy to India Tirtha Raj Wagle were also present during the meeting that lasted for about 35 minutes.
Singh said India is ready to extend any kind of assistance to strengthen democratic system in Nepal. "We are the closest neighbour of Nepal. We are ready to provide all kind of assistance to institutionalise democratic system in Nepal," NC leader Nidhi said quoting the Indian PM as saying. Singh also assured of logistical support during the upcoming CA election s.
In response, Deuba said that India has always been extending assistance and goodwill in every major political change in Nepal. He appreciated India’s assistance up until the signing of 12-point pact that paved the way for bringing an end to the decade-long conflict in Nepal.
Singh was flanked by National Security Advisor Shiva Sankar Menon, Indian Foreign Secretary Ranjan Mathai, Indian envoy to Nepal Jayanta Prasad and Joint Secretary at the Nepal-Bhutan desk Akhilesh Mishra during the meeting.
