HAQUE MURDER : Wife, daughter main suspects

RAJBIRAJ, JUN 07 - Investigations into the murder of former lawmaker Sadrul Miya Haque has taken an unexpected turn with the police arresting Haque’s wife and daughter as the main suspects. Police have also arrested a third suspect in connection with the incident.
Eighteen days after Haque was murdered in Kalyanpur VDC, police called a press conference at the Sagarmatha Zonal Police Office here on Friday and said Haque’s wife Noor Jahan Khatun and their 19-year-old daughter Rubeda Khatun had plotted the former lawmaker’s murder. The plan was carried out by Rubeda’s husband Mohammad Jamirool Sheikh and two others, Abdul Rauf and Anul Sheikh.
Noor Jahan, Rubeda and Abdul are in police custody and were presented before the media at the press meet, while Mohammad and Anul are at large.
Investigations have revealed that Haque was murdered as he was against the relationship of his second daughter, Rubeda, with Mohammad. Investigators have also found out that the two had secretly exchanged wedding vows in Rautahat last year with Noor Jahan’s consent.
An investigation report states that Noor Jahan had given Rs 80,000 to Mohammad, who used the money to hire Abdul and Anul to murder Haque.
A joint team from the Central Bureau of Investigation in Kathmandu, the Eastern Regional Police Headquarters in Biratnagar and the District Police Office in Saptari was involved in the investigations. The team apprehended Rubeda and Abdul on Thursday. Based on their statement, Noor Jahan was arrested on
Friday morning.
Noor Jahan has denied involvement and accused her husband’s two brothers and their maternal uncle instead. She said they told her not to speak about the incident to anyone, or else they would kill her son.
Superintendent of Police Sanjay Singh Basnet said they will soon arrest Mohammad and Anul.
