UML finalises PR list, formal submission on Sunday

KATHMANDU, DEC 28 -
A closed door-meeting of senior CPN-UML leaders has finalised name list of the party's proportional representation (PR) candidates winning the seats in the Constituent Assembly (CA) elections.

The PR candidates were selected after three-day long residential meeting at Gokarna Forest Resort.

Sources close to the party said Chairman Jhala Nath Khanal has made a call to Election Commissioner Ayodhee Prasad Yadav and informed that his party is submitting name list of the PR candidates by Saturday morning. "Name list of candidates winning the PR seats have been finalised and Election Commission has also been informed to this effect. Formal submission will be on Sunday," said a UML leader.

Of the total 335 candidates fielded under the PR category, the party has won 84 seats. Soures said as top five leaders -- Chairman Khanal, senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal and KP Oli, Vice Chairman Bamdev Gautam and General Secretary Ishwor Pokhrel -- command an equal number of party candidates wining under direct election, they had tough competition in picking winning PR candidates .

While they declined to speak officially, sources claimed the top leaders have agreed to pick Dhan Bahadur Rayamajhi, Shanta Manabi, Bidhya Bhandari, Gauri Oli, Kamala Mahato, Tuka Hamal, Ganesh Man Gurung, Iksha Raj Tamang, Ram Kumari Jhakri, Mamata Giri, Gokul Gharti and Jayanti Rai, among others.

All Standing Committee members are still at the Gokarna Forest Resort.
