Maoists not to submit PR list until vote probe panel is formed

KATHMANDU, DEC 01 -

The UCPN (Maoist) on Saturday made it clear that it will not submit the list of its candidates for the proportional representation (PR) seats until a committee is formed to look into "vote rigging and irregularities".

"We're not going to submit the list of our candidates for the PR category unless the Election Commission forms a probe panel," party spokesperson Agni Sapkota said during a regular press conference at the party headquarters on Saturday. He accused that institutional fraud had taken place during the polls to defeat the Maoists. "The government should form an independent commission to probe the allegations."

The Maoists were defeated not due to their internal causes but institutional and policy-level conspiracy, Sapkota alleged. He demanded fresh elections of the President and the Vice President.

"We won't join the Constituent Assembly nor will be a part of the new government unless the polls are reviewed."
