Directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Ram Leela is said to be an adaptation of Shakespearean epic, Romeo and Juliet, set in violent times.
India made its presence felt at the 13th edition of the ongoing Marrakech Film Festival in Morocco. Director Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s recent hit flick, Ram-Leela, was showcased at the fest. Bhansali brought along his current muse, actor Deepika Padukone, to the festival. Dare we say ‘Leela’ looked rather gorgeous in a floor-length Gauri-Nainika gown, accessorised with gold earrings, offset with a sleek updo, and her trademark smile.
Also seen at the festival was Gangs Of Wasseypur director Anurag Kashyap, who was a member of the jury. He was seen rubbing shoulders with legendary Hollywood director Martin Scorsese, actors Marion Cotillard, Patricia Clarkson, and director Amat Escalante, among others.
Interestingly, each of the jury members declared the festival “officially open” in their native language, bringing Farsi, Hindi, French, English, Korean, Spanish, Arabic and Italian to the stage. Also, Hollywood actor Sharon Stone was honoured at the festival. Scorsese, who presented her with the award, said: “Sharon is brilliant, extremely talented, fearless, charming, funny and wild... she’s a true star.” The festival ends on December 7.
