Two British people have been killed in a car crash in France shortly after arriving in the country.
The AFP news agency reported the couple's car was crushed between two heavy trucks after disembarking from a cross-channel ferry near Dunkirk.
The first truck stopped suddenly and the second collided with the couple's car from behind, AFP said.
The Foreign Office said it was aware of the deaths and was ready to provide consular assistance.
AFP reported that the couple were both 54-years-old. No further details have been released about their identities.
A Polish truck driver - who suffered minor injuries - had been unable to stop in time before hitting their car, AFP reported.
A spokeswoman for DFDS Seaways, which operates a service between Dover and Dunkirk, said: "We can confirm that a road traffic incident occurred in the port of Dunkirk on Friday 29 November and fatalities have been reported.
"Police are investigating the incident, which took place on the main road leading into the terminal. We are unable to comment on this whilst French police enquiries are taking place."
She could not confirm if the people killed had been passengers on a DFDS ferry.
