Nepal's fairy tale journey ends with Afghanistan defeat

KATHMANDU, NOV 29 - Afghanistan defeated Nepal by 7 wickets in the semifinals of ICC World Twenty20 Qualifier played at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi on Friday.

The Afghanistan side achieved the target of 91 runs set by Nepal in just 14.2 overs losing only 3 wickets in the process.

Nepal made a good start by picking up two early wickets against arch rivals Afghanistan. Nepal i seamer Avinash Karn took both the wickets. The third Afghani wicket fell at 12.2 over with 80 runs on the board, by then it was little too late for the Nepal i squad to have the hopes of a famous upset.

Earlier, Afghanistan won the toss and invited Nepal to bat first. Nepal came under pressure right from the start as they lost opener Sagar Pun for 2 runs in the second over.

Nepal put up a score of 90 runs in 20 overs. Afghanistan bowlers took wickets in regular intervals as they foiled Nepal 's chances of making a decent total. Afghani bowler Shenwari took three wickets to derail the Nepal i innings.

Skipper Paras Khada couldn't repeat his heroic performances for the team as he was out for just 13 runs. Sharad Vesawkar top scored for Nepal scoring 27 runs.

Nepal have already made it to the ICC Twenty20 Cricket World Cup to be played in Bangladesh next year after registering historic win against Hong Kong earlier this week.
