Hyderabad: 3 armymen held for attempting to rape teenager

Three army personnel were arrested for allegedly attempting to rape a teenaged girl on Monday at the Mahindra Hills area in Hyderabad, the police said.

Hawaldar Lok Bahadur Chatri and sepoys Tapas M and Solan N posted at the Army Ordnance Corps (AOC) Centre at Secunderabad were arrested after a 17-year-old girl accused them of misbehaving with her after taking her to a secluded place in the military area on Monday night, they said.

Before that the men had allegedly snatched her two-wheeler and cellphone, they added.

In her complaint, the girl also alleged that the men beat up her boyfriend accompanying her. The boyfriend then told the matter to locals who rushed to the spot and caught hold of the three army personnel, the police said.

After a complaint, the three armymen were arrested, and booked on the charges of attempted rape and trying to outrage the modesty of a woman, DCP (North Zone) R Jayalakshmi said.
