15,000 people died because of NC not Maoists: Dahal
TIKAPUR, NOV 11 - UCPN (Maoist) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal has said that his party will give the new constitution with ethnic identity and rights if it wins a majority in the forthcoming Constituent Assembly (CA) elections. He claimed that his party failed to deliver the constitution due to lack of majority in the first CA polls.
Speaking at an electoral assembly organised here in Tikapur of Kailali district as part of the UCPN (Maoist) Mechi-Mahakali National Campaign on Monday, leader Dahal claimed that his party should be given a majority in order to institutionalise the constitution with ethnic identity as the CA is the agenda of UCPN (Maoist).
He went on to claim that the Mohan Baidya-led CPN-Maoist, breakaway faction of the UCPN (Maoist), will support his party in the CA elections as the agenda of CA was unanimously approved by the second general convention of the party in 2000.
"Only 1500 people had been killed when we tried to give the people their rights through a Constituent Assembly (CA) peacefully, but the Nepali Congress killed 15,000 people by imposing state of emergency," said Dahal.
"The people of Kailali had scored six by winning all six constituencies of the district, I would like to request you to do the same," said Dahal went on to claim that his party will secure 160 seats in the elections under the direct system.
He claimed that the CPN-Maoist has assisted his party in its Mechi-Mahakali National Campaign by organising the banda. "People can take part in our programme as they won't have any works. Also, the roads are empty due to the strike and I am easily commuting."
