Partners take Baidya to task
Smaller parties in alliance demand clarification of his ‘royalist’ remarks
KATHMANDU, JUL 28 -
Smaller parties in the 33-party alliance have sought written clarification from their coordinator Mohan Baidya over the CPN-Maoist’s ‘alliance with royalists’.
In a closed door meeting at the CPN-Maoist office in Kupandole on Saturday, the parties threatened to withdraw their support if the Maoists wanted to join hands with monarchists.
Matrika Yadav of CPN (Maoist), Pasang Sherpa of Social Democratic Party, Khagendra Makhim of Federal Democratic National Forum, Mani Thapa of Revolutionary Communist party, Buddha Raj Syantan of Adhivasi Janajati party and Sita Ram Tamang of CPN (Unified) voiced their reservation over the alliance as reported in the media.
“We clearly told him [Baidya] that we cannot accept an alliance with the ex-king or his loyalists at any cost,” said Pasang Sherpa. Chairman Baidya and Secretary Netra Bikram Chand have said their party is ready to make alliance with the royalists. Baidya later corrected his statement saying that his party can work with royalists including Kamal Thapa if they accepted republicanism, secularism and federalism.
