KATHMANDU, JUL 17 - The High Level Political Committee(HLPC) on Wednesday sent a letter to CPN-Maoist , one of the major parties opposed to the scheduled Constituent Assembly (CA) elections, requesting for talks.
HLPC Coordinator and UCPN (Maoist) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal sent the letter to CPN-Maoist Chairman Baidya and all the other parties that have joined his coalition.
Dahal's aide delivered the letter to CPN-Maoist headquarters at Buddhanagar in the Capital after the meeting of HLPC decided to urge the disgruntled parties to join for the upcoming Constituent Assembly elections.
Earlier, the leaders of CPN-Maoist had claimed that they would not accept any invitation for talks but later, after the Central Committee meeting, they said that they would come for talks as the major political parties committed to address their issues through a round table meeting.
Chairman Mohan Baidya along with Vice Chairman CP Gajurel, General Secretary Ram Bahadur Thapa and Secretary duo Dev Gurung and Netra Bikram Chand would be representing the party during the talks.
However, the date for the round table meeting has not been fixed.CPN-Maoist leaders have said that the talks should also incorporate other 33 parties that have joined their coalition. In reply, HLPC has committed to hold talks with all the disgruntled parties.
Likewise, the meeting also decided to prepare first draft of the constitution within six months and to give full shape to the constitution within the remaining six months time following November polls.
The deadline of the new CA will be of four years. The CA will continue the works of legislature-parliament following the conclusion of constitution drafting, sources said.
Meanwhile, the HLPC meeting has been summoned again on Thursday evening to decide the number of electoral constituencies.
