Couples’ separation ‘main reason for suicides’
DOLAKHA, JUL 29 -
Most suicide cases in the district in the past one year were caused by couples’ separation due to foreign employment; poverty; tragic love affairs and alcoholism, a study carried out the District Police Office says.
The study shows that suppressed sexual desires and loneliness resulting to extramarital affairs and suspicion of such relationship caused by separation of couples due to foreign employment seem to be the main reason behind suicide .
According to police, of the total 33 people who committed suicidein the past one year in the district, 20 were female. Among them, 23 committed suicide by hanging, seven by ingesting poison and three by jumping off the cliffs. DSP Om Prasad Adhikari said many victims are found to have left suicide notes hoping that the “guilty” will be punished. Adhikari, however, said there are no legal provisions in the country, which necessitate investigations solely on the basis of suicide notes.
