Regmi discusses poll preparations with leaders
KATHMANDU, NOV 04 - Chairman of Interim Election Government, Khil Raj Regmi , on Monday met influential leaders of major political parties and discussed the upcoming Constituent Assembly (CA) polls.
During an hour-long meeting held at his official residence in Baluwatar, the interaction revolved around the preparations being made for the upcoming polls and various issues pertaining to the elections, Regmi's press advisor Rajendra Prasad Pandey informed.
According to Pandey, the leaders have decided to make the elections a national campaign.
"The meeting has called on the parties boycotting the CA polls to desist from enforcing strikes or abstain from violence so as to deprive the people of their right to vote," state a press statement issued after the meeting.
"As such activities will be against the existing law and election code of conducted issued by the Election Commission, the meeting has stressed on the need to take legal action against such activities," the statement further read.
Cabinet Chairman Regmi reiterated the government's commitment to leave no stones unturned to ensure timely conduction of the CA polls in a free and fair environment. He urged the people to participate in November 19 polls.
UCPN (Maoist) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal, Nepali Congress Vice President Ram Chandra Poudel, Prakash Man Singh, Minendra Rijal, UML Vice Chairman Bidya Bhandari, Madhesi Janadhikar Forum-Loktantrik Chairman Bijaya Kumar Gachhadar, Madhesi Janadhikar Forum-Nepal leader Ratneshwor Kayastha and Federal Socialist Party General Secretary Rajendra Shrestha, among other leaders, were present during the meeting.
